Peppermill Community Center Renovation

Project Description

A new 15,000 sq. ft. community center is being constructed to replace the former 10,000 sq. ft. center. The design and construction work shall meet the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Level rating for New Construction. Designed alongside WGM Architects and Sheibel Construction, DPR ensured the community center will represent the wants and needs of Peppermill residents. The increased building area will allow DPR to expand upon indoor and outdoor programming by providing: a new indoor gymnasium, fitness room, four flexible multipurpose rooms, pantry with an oven and fridge, lobby and reception areas, offices, a new irrigated outdoor rectangular field, new playground, and plenty of storage room.

Design & Interior

The design of a new community center to replace the aging Peppermill Community Center has been completed. The new center will include a larger gym that can be converted into a social space to accommodate over 200 people. A flexible multi-purpose space with attached pantry will serve multiple uses and age groups, including a dedicated space for the senior population. A large fitness room will feature new fitness equipment to serve the community. Restrooms, storage areas and staff office space will round out the design.

Building Improvements

Outside, a patio with access from the multi-purpose room will be a convenient place to eat and socialize, and the parking lot will be enlarged. Security and lighting issues will also be addressed. The building will be upgraded to full Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. Construction is expected to begin in mid-2017 and work will be completed in late 2018.
