Overview

Mount Calvert is one of the most significant historical and archaeological sites in Prince George's County. Its rich archaeological and historical resources represent over 8,000 years of human culture. Mount Calvert offers visitors the experience of seeing history being discovered by archaeologists working on an active excavation. Come see archaeologists uncover the past of American Indians, an early colonial town, and an 18th and 19th century Prince George’s County tobacco plantation. The results of earlier excavations can be seen in the permanent exhibit A Confluence of Three Cultures.

The grounds at Mount Calvert Historical and Archaeological Park are open every day from dawn until dusk for drive-in and walk-in visitors. The site is also accessible by water via canoe and kayak. Archaeological excavations are open on most Saturdays from April through October.
