Over the next couple months the community leadership team will be reaching out to various groups and residents in the Takoma/Langley Crossroads to conduct outreach meetings. The outreach meetings will introduce the sector plan and allow residents and stakeholders to begin identifying assets and elements important to a shared vision for the Takoma/Langley Crossroads. Members of the community leadership team are being professionally trained by the Director of the Howard Peters Rawlings Center for Public Leadership at the University of Maryland. The leadership team will determine the most appropriate methods to reach out to the diverse groups in the Takoma/Langley Crossroads and start hosting meetings throughout the community. To get involved or find more information about these upcoming meetings contact one of the community planners or check our calendar.
Outreach from the community leadership team is the first phase of planning efforts for the Takoma/Langley Crossroads sector plan. The sector plan is a joint planning effort being conducted by the Prince George’s County Planning Department and Montgomery County Planning Department of the Maryland National-Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), in conjunction with the City of Takoma Park. Planning staff will be working with residents and stakeholders to prepare a comprehensive plan and implementation strategy for the Takoma/Langley Crossroads with an emphasis on achieving transit-oriented development (TOD) around a proposed Purple Line transit station at the intersection of University Boulevard (MD 193) and New Hampshire Avenue (MD 605). The sector plan will contain policies, objectives and recommendations that will guide future growth and development in an area with an approximate radius of a half-mile from the proposed transit station at the intersection of University Boulevard and New Hampshire Avenue.
