Overview

The goal of the Takoma/Langley Crossroads Sector Plan is to produce a joint Bi-County plan that will enhance the unique character of this diverse multi-cultural community and implement both counties’ existing General Plan recommendations. The emphasis will be on promoting mixed-use, pedestrian–and transit–oriented development opportunities to support a proposed Purple Line transit station. Formally known as the Bi-County Transitway, the Purple Line is a proposed 14-mile transit line would connect Bethesda and New Carrollton along a route inside the Capital Beltway. The Purple Line would link existing Red, Green, and Orange Metrorail lines that radiate into suburban Maryland from Washington, D.C. and provide an east-west public transportation link between Montgomery County and Prince George's County.

The Takoma/Langley Crossroads Sector Plan has started and is in the early phases of community outreach. During the pre-planning phase, the planning team will begin outreach efforts to meet with community stakeholders and coordinate efforts to make the planning process a true multi-jurisdictional plan. In addition to the long range planning and land-use recommendations involved in the Sector Plan and subsequent rezoning, the planning process will attempt to address the community’s immediate quality of life concerns such as pedestrian safety and mobility.
