On January 16, 2008 planners from Montgomery and Prince George’s County presented the Goals and Outreach Stragegy report to the Joint M-NCPPC Planning Board for approval. Residents and stakeholders commented on the planning approach and issues in the area. This event started the Bi-County sector plan process.
On May 21, 2008 the planning team held their first public engagement workshop with residents and stakeholders. Participants commented on a range of issues and opportunities in the area and the planning team will use these to create development alternatives, which will be presented at the next community workshop on June 12th.
On June 7, 2008 the planning team engaged youth involved in the Xtreme Teens program about concerns they have for the future of the area. The meeting generated feedback on aspects that are problematic to youth and ideas on how to improve the Takoma/Langley Crossroads. The concerns are summarized in the download below.
On April 14, 2008 the planning team and community partners engaged day laborers in the Takoma/Langley Crossroads about concerns they have in the area. The meeting generated feedback from over 25 day laborers that had concerns that ranged from public spaces to access to jobs. These concerns were generated by small group interviews done mostly in Spanish and through the help of community partners such as CASA of Maryland, CSAFE, and Impact Silver Spring. These concerns have been transcribed and can be found in the download below.
On June 12 and 14th 2008, Planners discussed the feedback they received from the numerous outreach meetings conducted in the Takoma/Langley Crossroads area and presented three development ideas for the area. The team also solicited feedback from the community on these design ideas.
Through June 24th to June 26th 2008, the Takoma Langley Crossroads Team engaged in a series of worksessions with invited agencies and community organizations. The worksessions were designed to build on the earlier concepts and develop a more refined design concept for the area.
On July 17 and 19 2008 Planners presented the revised design concept based on discussions and feedback received from the June 12 and 14th outreach meetings, work sessions, and meetings with landowners. The team solicited final feedback from the community on the design concept.
