CURRENT
EVENTS / ISSUES
The
Transportation Planning Section is actively working
with state and local transportation agencies to:
-
Identify a preferred alternative for the Purple Line
between Bethesda and New Carrollton.
-
Develop an implementation program for transportation
improvements along Route 1 in College Park, including
transit shuttles, parking and demand management, and access
management.
-
Develop a microcomputer travel demand model called
TransForM (Transportation Forecasting Model) that will
apply regional data but focus on Prince George's County to
evaluate future transportation improvements and land use patterns.
-
Develop an update to the Countywide Master Plan
of
Transportation including bikeway and trail facilities
and
using TransForM to identify long-range needs
for highways
and transit.
-
Provide continued support as needed for State
Highway
Administration studies along US 1, MD 201,
US 301, MD 5,
MD 197, MD 223 and the Capital Beltway.

Provide coordination and staff support to
the Prince
George's County Bicycle/Trails Advisory
Group (BTAG)
which was formed in January of 1998 to
identify and
address pedestrian, cyclist and equestrian
transportation issues.
