The Transportation Planning Section is actively working with state and local transportation agencies to:

  • Identify a preferred alternative for the Purple Line
    between Bethesda and New Carrollton.

  • Develop an implementation program for transportation
improvements along Route 1 in College Park, including
transit shuttles, parking and demand management, and access
    management.

  • Develop a microcomputer travel demand model called
TransForM (Transportation Forecasting Model) that will
apply regional data but focus on Prince George's County to
evaluate future transportation improvements and land use patterns.

  • Develop an update to the Countywide Master Plan of
Transportation including bikeway and trail facilities and
using TransForM to identify long-range needs for highways
    and transit.

  • Provide continued support as needed for State Highway
Administration studies along US 1, MD 201, US 301, MD 5,
MD 197, MD 223 and the Capital Beltway.

  • Provide coordination and staff support to the Prince
George's County Bicycle/Trails Advisory Group (BTAG)

which was formed in January of 1998 to identify and
    address pedestrian, cyclist and equestrian
    transportation issues.

Keep watching for updates to these initiatives. You can
obtain further information by calling the Transportation
    Planning Division at 301-952-3084.
