PLANNING DEPARTMENT TO PRESENT
COMMUNITY’S VISION
FOR THE LANDOVER GATEWAY AREA AND FORMER
LANDOVER MALL SITE
AT JUNE 16 PUBLIC MEETING
UPPER
MARLBORO, MD – On Saturday, June 16, at approximately 10 a.m., staff of the Prince George’s
County Planning Department of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning
Commission will present a summary of the community’s vision for the “Landover
Gateway” area, which includes the former Landover Mall site and properties
located within a one-half mile radius of the site, at a public meeting at the
Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex in Landover.
The
community vision for this area was developed as a result of a series of public
events, including: brainstorming workshops; briefings with property owners,
elected officials, government agencies and other stakeholders; a community open
house; and a May 10 planning charrette. A charrette is an intensive, hands-on
collaborative planning and development exercise that is organized around a
common vision to achieve a development goal and create a development plan for a
specific area.
The June
16 presentation will summarize the results of the recommendations developed by
community stakeholders as a result of the May 10 charrette. Recommendations
include: incorporation of downtown qualities and a mix of uses for the Landover
Mall property, and use of multi-modal and “walkable” transportation systems in
the area.
The
presentation is part of an all-day post-charrette community meeting that will
be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16 at the Prince George’s
Sports & Learning Complex, 8001 Sheriff Road in Landover. Information on
the Landover Gateway Sector Plan and planning process is available by logging
