PROJECT DESCRIPTION
PROJECT BOUNDARY MAP

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A transit line (light rail or busway) from the Branch Avenue Metro Station to Waldorf is under consideration by the Maryland Transit Authority (MTA). The MD 5 corridor extends through both the Developed and the Developing Tiers designated in the General Plan. To build on the recommendations for enhanced transit service along the corridor, there is a need to identify planning strategies to implement the transit alignment and station locations under consideration and to comprehensively examine planning issues within the context of the corridor policy recommendations in the General Plan. A request for proposals was advertised. However, the MTA Transit Service Staging Plan has been delayed. Until such time as the MTA study is final, the MD 5 (Branch Avenue) Corridor Study is on hold. This study will focus on planning issues and objectives and proposed additional planning actions to be considered in FY04 and beyond.
