Public Meeting Summaries

M-NCPPC has begun stakeholder outreach efforts for the New Carrollton Transit District Development Plan/Transit District Overlay Zone (TDDP/TDOZ) Update project in October 2007.

M-NCPPC held a technical charrette on October 15th and 16th to solicit input from implementing public agencies on issues likely to affect future development at the New Carrollton Metro station. Represented agencies included the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), and the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T).

On October 30, 2007, the Prince George's County District Council formally approved the initiation of the New Carrollton TDDP/TDOZ Update project.

Community outreach efforts began December 2007 with informational community meetings sponsored by M-NCPPC and held on December 5-6, 2007. Both meetings began at 6:30 p.m. and were held at the New Carrollton Municipal Center. The December 5th meeting featured a presentation by M-NCPPC staff and consultants of the planning process and schematic development concepts for the amended TDOZ area. Despite inclement weather, more than 60 people attended this meeting. The December 6th meeting focused on the Annapolis Road (MD 450) corridor and its relationship to the New Carrollton Metro station area. This meeting included a breakout session where participants were invited to help mark up working maps of the corridor with comments on development issues facing the area and what they wanted to see develop at the New Carrollton Metro station. Approximately 40 people attended this meeting.

Elected officials who attended the sessions included 3rd District Councilmember Eric Olson, Mayor Andrew Hanko of New Carrollton, Mayor Lee Walker of Landover Hills, and several town councilmembers from both municipalities.
