Why do we plan?
It
is important to plan so that communities,
cities and counties can run smoothly and provide
all
the necessary services such as snow removal,
trash pick-up, schools, fire and police
stations, hospitals, and bus service to
the people who live in the community.
Why
is it important to plan?
It is important to plan so that a community
will have enough schools, libraries, hospitals,
houses, transportation, parks, and all the
services that are needed when they are
needed. Since
it takes a long time to build a school or
a park or a road, it is important to know
what a community will need years before it
is actually needed.
What are the types of planning?
Some
planners focus on a particular type of planning.
For example Environmental planners
preserve important natural
elements such as
trees, streams, lakes, rivers and bays.
Community planners work
with people in communities to decide the best
use of land and ways to help guide land development.
Environmental planners preserve
important natural elements such as trees, streams,
lakes, rivers and bays.
Historic planners preserve
historic buildings and landscapes and vistas.
Transportation planners find
ways of providing adequate roads and reducing
traffic congestion.
Careers in planning.
Planners
often work for a local, city, county or state
goverment. Planners also work for architectural
and land use consultant companies.
What type of education is required for a career
in planning?
Most planning
careers require at least a Bachelor's Degree.
Often, a Master's Degree in Urban and Regional
Planning is required.
What does a county planner do?
A county planner provides
information to our leaders so that they
can decide the best use for county land. A
county planner is someone who decides through
careful study, what types of buildings should
go where. County planners help
plan for growth and development.
They decide where to put new houses and apartments,
where new businesses should go, where to build
schools, and when and how highways and
streets should be widened.
