PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY FAST FACTS

1. Prince George’s County was created out of Calvert and Charles counties in 1696.

2. The flower of Prince George’s County is the Daffodil.

3. The bird of Prince George’s County is the Eastern Bluebird.

4. The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) was created in 1927.

5. M-NCPPC is a bicounty agency serving the citizens and residents of Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties.

6. M-NCPPC provides planning, recreation and Park services.

7. The MNCPPC Planning Department helps preserve, protect, and manage the county’s resources by providing the highest quality Planning services.

8. In 1927, the population in Prince George’s County was 55,000. Today the population is over 800,000.

9. The first railroad line across the county was in the 1830s.

10. The original county seat was Charles Town, known as Mount Calvert. It was located on the Patuxent River a few miles south of Upper Marlboro.

11. The county seat was moved to Upper Marlboro in 1721.

12. The land area of Prince George’s County is 486 square miles.

13. The county motto is “Semper Eadem,” which means “Ever the Same.”
