Program for FY 1996-97 consists of the following:
Water
Resources Policy/Surface Water Quality Program
To assist other State, regional and local agencies in
protecting and restoring the water quality, riparian
habitat and aquatic ecosystems of the Chesapeake Bay
and its tributaries.
Patuxent
River Basin Development Guidelines
Implement the recommendations of the Patuxent River
Policy Plan and the Patuxent Demonstration Project which
outline land management strategies to reduce nonpoint
pollution, improve water quality and habitat values
within the Patuxent River watershed.
Watershed
Planning and Implementation
To assure that the recommendations of approved watershed
management plans are integrated with the County's land
use planning and development process.
Sand
and Gravel Resources Protection
To coordinate and balance the need for surface mining
of sand and gravel with concerns over the impact that
mining operations can have on the health, safety and
welfare of nearby residents and sensitive natural features.
Chesapeake
Bay Critical Area Protection and Coastal Zone Management
Program
To develop and implement local programs consistent with
Federal and State requirements for Coastal Zone Management
and Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Protection Program.
Woodland
Conservation and Tree Preservation Program
To implement the program described in the Prince George's
County Woodland Conservation and Tree Preservation Policy
Document and maintain conformance with the State Forest
Conservation Act and Subtitle 25 of the County Code.
Water
and Sewer Planning
To participate in the preparation of revisions to the
Comprehensive Ten Year Water and Sewerage Plan and related
facilities planning as required by State law and County
policy. To incorporate water and sewer infrastructure
needs in the planning and development review process
and address the impacts of providing for these needs.
Air
Quality Planning
To improve air quality and meet the requirements of
the Clean Air Act by working with the Metropolitan Washington
Council of Governments and other County and State Agencies
in assessing current and future emissions inventories,
identifying potential control measures, developing an
effective attainment strategy and incorporating measures
in our planning programs to implement this strategy.
