market for Prince George’s County, utilizing
2000 Census data.
- Encorage
the development of active retirement community
housing through the planning and development
review process by enhancing existing Zoning Ordinanace
regulations to promote quality retirement community
development for the active senior market in Prince
George’s County. Promote the 2002 General
Plan goal for housing
which states “enhance
the quality and character of residential neighborhoods
through the planning and provision of a high-quality
mix of residential development that provides a
choice of housing types.”

strategies to attract seniors to live and retire
in Prince George’s County.

on the research provided in the 1999 Senior
Citizens Housing & Services Task
Force report
for Prince George’s County.

Research
the 2000 census data
of the senior population for information relating
to the active senior market defined by (a)
age, (b) income, (c) home ownership, (d) head
of household,
and (e) number of dependents to prepare a
demographic profile of Prince George’s
County.

Research best practices
for development of adult active retirement
communities; identify the needs and/or
psychograhics of the defined active senior
market; review the existing planning and
development review process; and propose
legislation,
regulations or other measures
pursuant to the recommendations of the
2002 General
Plan,
which states, “encourage
the development of
active retirement
housing through the
planning and development
review process.”
Status:
- Study to be available Fall 2005. Project is shifted to the Research
Section of the Information Center. The project
leader is Jackie Philson.
