Jug Bay Run For Wildlife

The in-person 2020 Jug Bay Run for Wildlife race has been CANCELLED. A virtual option will be available during the month of October:

Virtual Jug Bay Run for Wildlife

Thank you for your support of the Jug Bay Run for Wildlife over the past 24 years! Out of concern for the health and safety of our participants and staff, we have decided to cancel this year’s Jug Bay Run for Wildlife. To keep the running spirit alive through the next year, we have created a virtual run option for participants this year.

During the month of October, run or walk the 10K or 5K course at Patuxent River Park, and take a picture along the route. Post the picture to the PG Parks Nature Facebook page or send it via email. On November 7th, we will announce 3 random winners to receive a wildlife prize pack.

About Jug Bay Run for Wildlife

If you would like to donate to this continued effort to support the wildlife in the Patuxent River Watershed, visit Jug Bay Run for Wildlife.

We look forward to seeing you for our 25th Jug Bay Run for Wildlife on November 6, 2021!

About the Race Course

The course starts and ends at the Group Camp area of Patuxent River Park (16000 Croom Airport Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772). Parking is available in a small lot outside of Group Camp. If the parking lot is full, please do not block the gate. Overflow parking is along the side of the road.

Together, The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s Patuxent River Park and The Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary comprise over 3,500 acres along the banks of the Patuxent River. You will get to run alongside the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Driving Tour of the M-NCPPC/ Maryland DNR.

The river and its shores are home to an incredible variety of wildlife that you will enjoy while you walk or run the 5K or 10K (click to view maps below). This mostly flat, paved and dirt road course leads runners along the banks of the Patuxent River. Enjoy!
