Applied for by the Institute for Public Health Innovation, this project will develop guidance for the implementation of the Healthy Corner Store Initiative (HCSI) and prepare a user-friendly toolkit for store owners who partner with the HCSI to offer fresh, healthy food items in the Healthy Food Priority Areas of Prince George’s County. Once the toolkit is completed, then the institute’s Healthy Corner Store Team will provide technical assistance to owners for store conversions, marketing, community education, and outreach.
The consultants are now completing case studies, evaluating existing cornerstone inventory, and beginning surveys. Three prototype redevelopment stores have been selected and staff will soon begin to develop alteration scenarios. The next meeting with staff and the consultants is scheduled for January 20.
