Field Irrigation Projects
Project Background/Description
M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation seeks to add sports field irrigation to five (5) existing field sites. Each site has differing existing conditions. The Park Planning and Development Division is working with one design consultant to design and permit these projects.
The five park sites are as follows:
- Beltsville Community Center
- Fairwood Park
- Glenarden Community Center
- Landover Hills Community Center
- Sasscer Park
Status/Project Updates
Last Updated March 2022
To reduce the number of fields out of service at one time, the projects will occur in phases. The order that the fields will be completed is as follows:
- Sasscer Park – Completed, April 2021.
- Beltsville Community Center – Construction phase, projected completion October/November 2023.
- Glenarden Community Center – Design and permitting phase, projected completion November 2023.
- Landover Hills Park – Design and permitting phase, projected completion November 2023.
- Fairwood Park – Design and permitting phase, projected completion November 2023.
Actual dates for the completion of the milestones are subject to change.

Notes:
- Proposed irrigation for an existing rectangular field.
- Proposed irrigation controls will be housed within the storage room in the northwest corner of the existing community center building.
- Plans to reseed field (shade tolerant species needed).
- Use: Practices 5 days per week (youth), Game day once per week for approximately 7 hours.

Notes:
- Proposed irrigation for two existing soccer fields. Due to budget constraints it was determined to put in the irrigation on the western field, but size the system for future installation of the second field.
- Only need one controller to do both fields.
- Bigger waterline required (larger public water tap needed).
- Use: youth soccer only, heavy use all day Saturday and Sunday.
- A precast building to be installed to house the irrigation controller.

- Existing on-site water will be tapped behind the building and a submeter installed.
- A stainless steel cabinet will be used to house the irrigation system.
- Field access area will be renovated with reinforced turf pavers to fix erosion.

Notes:
- Proposed irrigation for two existing rectangular, lit fields.
- Provide irrigation to both the main field and the practice field.
- The existing 10” line will be tapped with a 4” line and stepped down to a 2” “water only” meter.
- Not fenced, provide fencing in near future; not included in this project.
- A precast building will be installed to house the irrigation system.

Notes:
- Irrigation for an existing football field.
- MNCPPC does not own (Board of Education property, under agreement).
- Replacement of old irrigation system (on well). A consultant determined that the system could be repaired, so a water tap was not needed and therefore we did not need permit drawings.
- Project completed April 2021.
