Black History Exhibit: We Return Fighting: World War I and the African-American Experience

Sunday, February 4, 2018

This exhibit is curated by the M-NCPPC Black History Program. Guided tours are available for schools and community groups. To schedule a tour, contact the Black History Program at Abraham Hall at 240-264-3415.

In honor of the 100th anniversary of the United States' involvement in World War I, this exhibit explores the experiences of African-Americans both at home and abroad during this war and the years surrounding it. Despite the oppressive racial climate in America in the opening decades of the 20th century, African-Americans staunchly supported the war effort in a variety of ways. This exhibit highlights the experiences of Black men and women during this era, with a special focus on the African-American soldiers from Prince George’s County and their families.
