Riverdale, MD – This fall, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) Department of Parks of Recreation in Prince George’s County invites you to enjoy art, music, history and cultural heritage throughout the county.

West Coast jazz vocalist Debora Galan is coming home to the East Coast, where her career began! Galan will showcase tunes from her album, All About Love, including original compositions inspired by her Spanish and Cuban ancestry and her abiding love of melody, rhythm, and groove.

Grammy-nominated pianist and composer Alex Brown is quickly emerging at the forefront of a new generation of artists. The New York Times says he plays “with a crystalline touch and a worldly approach.” In addition to leading his own quartet, Brown has been a member of Paquito D’Rivera’s ensemble since 2007, performing on and contributing arrangements to their Latin Grammy award-winning album, Jazz Meets the Classics.

Join us for our Smooth Sounds for Seniors Series featuring Eric Byrd. Performing selections from their last two recordings, the award-winning Eric Byrd Trio will present a program of jazz standards, original jazz arrangements of hymns, spirituals, and gospel music. Plus, pianist-vocalist Eric Byrd will sing a few selections. Featuring Bhagwan Khalsa on bass and Alphonso Young, Jr., on drums, the Eric Byrd Trio are ambassadors of gospel, blues, and jazz. Accordionist Rob Curto leads this trio, originally from New York City. An important Forró ambassador in the U.S., Curto has introduced many music lovers to the Northeastern Brazilian Music. He was an original member of the band Forró in the Dark with Mauro Refosco (David Byrne, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Smokey Hormel (Beck). Hailing from south of Sao Paulo, charismatic vocalist Rose Moraes has entertained thousands of music lovers with her “Roots of Brazil” concerts. She has performed widely in Switzerland, Poland, Brazil, and the U.S., where she now resides. She and Curto are joined by Scott Kettner for the Montpelier program.

The Riversdale Chamber Music Society celebrates the connection between Maryland and Riversdale House Museum, where the university's founder, Charles Benedict Calvert, was born in 1808. Its mission is to provide a diverse chamber music experience featuring UMD School of Music students and faculty, as well as collaborations with military and local ensembles.

Join us for our Smooth Sounds for Seniors series featuring a tribute concert to Shirley Chisholm. Two sopranos pay a celebratory birthday (November 30) tribute to Shirley Chisholm, the first African American United States presidential candidate. The tribute will offer Negro spirituals, songs of the Civil Rights movement, and narration of tidbits from Chisholm’s life.
