June Reception at the Montpelier Arts Center
M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation
Riverdale, MD – Join us to enjoy and celebrate the artwork of Lori Ulmer-Hanson and Marcia Wolfson Ray during the opening reception at the Montpelier Arts Center in Laurel, MD. Lori Ulmer-Hanson is an American artist best known for her artwork derived from the human form. She creates her work using a diverse array of media, including bronze, stone, and clay, with each medium having different characteristics and requiring varying techniques. Figurativism may best describe Ulmer-Hanson’s work particularly her sculptures, where her strong suggestive references and unspoken understanding of abstracted shapes are clear. Although sculpture remains her principal medium, she also works in 2D as a painter, illustrator, and graphic designer. Marcia Wolfson Ray is a Baltimore-based sculptor inspired by nature and the relationship humans have with the earth. Her archiTERRA exhibit presents the evolution of wood as art, and the experience creates a new environment, one that reflects the interdependency of humans and the natural world.
