Federal Railroad Administration and Maryland Department of Transportation To Hold Public Hearing on the
Baltimore-Washington Superconducting Magnetic Levitation (SCMAGLEV) Project
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) are holding a number of public hearings on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Baltimore-Washington Superconducting Magnetic Levitation (SCMAGLEV) Project. The Maglev Development Project (MDP) was established in an effort to construct and operate a high-speed superconducting magnetic levitation system (SCMAGLEV) between Washington, DC, and Baltimore, MD. The purpose of SCMAGLEV is to reduce travel time in order to meet the capacity and ridership needs of the Baltimore-Washington region.
The DEIS was released in January 2021 with an initial 90-day public comment period. At the request of stakeholders, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDT) Maryland Transit Administration has extended the public comment period to May 24, 2021. The DEIS can be reviewed at www.bwmaglive.info.
