Colorism vs. Racism: How Do These "-isms" Impact Afro Latin@ Communities

Tuesday, October 5, 2021

In this panel discussion, attendees will hear from members of Afro Latin@ communities concerning events (both past and current) that have impacted the inclusion of African descendants in Latino@ communities. Specifically, we will use historical events, current events, and pop culture as prompts to guide critical conversations around colorism, racism, and belonging. Panelists will include:

Aisha Cort, Ph.D., Lecturer, Department of World Languages and Cultures, Howard University

Miriam Machado-Luces, President & CEO, TVA Media, LLC

Ashanti Martinez, Research and Policy Analyst, CASA

Manuel Mendez, President, DC AfroLatino Caucus

This program will be streamed on the PGParksHistory Facebook page.
