Findings show high interest rates, rising construction costs, regulatory delays, and local policies as major impediments to housing production in Montgomery County
Wheaton, Md. – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NPPC), presented the preliminary findings of its Development Pipeline Analysis to the Montgomery County Planning Board, also part of The M-NCPPC, during the Board’s weekly meeting on September 18. The Development Pipeline is Montgomery Planning’s inventory of projects that have received certain Planning Board approvals but have not yet been built. The analysis begins to provide a clearer picture of the county’s residential development landscape and the barriers preventing approved housing projects from becoming reality.
WHEATON, Md. — Montgomery Parks announces that the design submission “Rooted and Radiant” has been selected as the winning mural to adorn the park activity building at Glenmont Local Park. Four artists were shortlisted to develop site-specific designs, with the final selection made by the community through an open voting process. The contest generated over 2,500 votes. The artist will begin work on the mural in mid-October, and it will be unveiled in early November.

ROCKVILLE, Md. – The Montgomery County Council voted to reappoint Mitra Pedoeem to the Montgomery County Planning Board, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), at its June 24 meeting. Pedoeem, who was first appointed in 2023 to fill a partial term and has been serving as Vice Chair under Planning Board Chair Artie Harris, will now serve a four-year term on the Planning Board.
Baltimore, Md. – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, (M-NCPPC) was recognized by the Maryland Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) with a Merit Award for the Damascus Placemaking Festival.

WHEATON, Md—Montgomery Parks is expanding its solar initiative, with a goal of doubling the park system’s solar energy production over the next five years. The initiative reflects the agency’s commitment to environmental sustainability, operational efficiency, and clean energy leadership in Montgomery County in support of the county’s Climate Action Plan.
WHEATON, Md. — Montgomery Parks received $5 million in capital funding for five park projects from the state of Maryland during the 2025 legislative session. The department will use the funding to renovate parks and playgrounds in various legislative districts in Montgomery County.
