Department wins one Platinum and four Gold MarCom Awards for writing, graphic and web design, and video production supporting master plans and projects
Wheaton, Md. – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), won one Platinum, four Gold, and five honorable mentions in the 2024 MarCom Awards international competition for design, video, writing, and website communications and marketing of department master plans and other projects. Administered by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP), the MarCom Awards honor excellence in marketing and communications while recognizing the creativity, hard work, and generosity of industry professionals.
Montgomery Planning’s Communications Division leads the department’s engagement, marketing and communications efforts to provide an audience-centric approach for reaching members of the community with a focus on removing barriers to participating in the planning process.
“Our Communications team excels at integrating innovative strategies and tools to effectively and equitably engage the community,” said Montgomery Planning Director Jason K. Sartori. “The recognition of these awards speaks to the commitment of all of our staff to creatively invite as many people as possible into the planning process using a variety of tactics and platforms.”
WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks is celebrating the reopening of the recently renovated Strathmore Local Park in Aspen Hill. More than one hundred residents gathered at the park on Saturday, October 19, 2024, as Montgomery Parks and Montgomery County officials cut the ribbon, officially opening the renovated park.
WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks’ historic Ovid Hazen Wells Carousel will provide its last ride at Wheaton Regional Park on Sunday, October 27, 2024. After that, the carousel, which has thrilled thousands of children, will be refurbished and relocated to its new home in Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park in Clarksburg. Tickets are still available for a nostalgic ride on the carved wooden horses.

Closure makes way for Purple Line construction
WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks will temporarily close portions of Sligo Creek Parkway beginning on or about September 16, 2024, to allow for the construction of the Maryland Transit Administration’s (MTA) Purple Line Light Rail Project. During this time, the project team will place light rail tracks and reconstruct the intersection along Wayne Avenue at Sligo Creek Parkway, while Montgomery Parks incorporates other improvements to the roadway.

Montgomery Parks is seeking design ideas for the mural from the community to ensure it reflects the history, values, stories, and aspirations of the diverse neighborhood. WHEATON, Md. – The Montgomery County Council on July 30 voted to approve the Great Seneca Plan: Connecting Life and Science, a master plan developed by the Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M‑NCPPC). The plan focuses on strengthening the economic competitiveness of the Life Sciences Center, a thriving hub that is host to a diverse population and leading life sciences, medical, and educational institutions and organizations along the I-270 Corridor.

WHEATON, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), has secured the Montgomery County Council’s approval to proceed with its ambitious work program for fiscal year 2025 (FY25), which begins on July 1, 2024. The County Council approved Montgomery Planning’s $25.5 million budget for FY25 at its meeting on May 23, 2024. These funds support the work program for the department and represent a 5% increase compared to the FY24 Operating Budget.
