Wheaton, Md. – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), has announced Bridget Broullire as its new Deputy Director of Administration following a national search. Broullire will oversee Montgomery Planning’s Communications, Management Services, Information Technology & Innovation, and Research and Strategic Projects divisions. She will serve alongside Deputy Director Robert Kronenberg, who oversees all the area planning divisions, the Countywide Planning and Policy Division, and the Intake and Regulatory Coordination Division. Both deputy positions report to Planning Director Jason K. Sartori.

Wheaton, Md. – The Montgomery County Council unanimously voted on November 12 to approve the 2024-2028 Growth and Infrastructure Policy (GIP), which was developed by the Montgomery County Planning Department and recommended by the Montgomery County Planning Board, both part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). Updated every four years, the GIP ensures infrastructure – such as roads, sidewalks, and school capacity – is adequate to support growth and that the tools used for evaluating and mitigating the impact of new development on communities reflect the county’s latest growth context and policy priorities.

WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery ParksMontgomery Planning, and the Montgomery County Planning Board, all part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), presented their Fall 2024 Semiannual Report to the Montgomery County Council on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. The presentation summarized key projects, initiatives, and activities from the past six months and those that will be completed over the next six months and beyond.

WHEATON, Md. –Montgomery Parks reopened Caroline Freeland Urban Park in downtown Bethesda on Saturday, November 9, 2024, following an extensive renovation. Montgomery Parks Director Miti Figueredo and Montgomery Planning Board Chair Artie Harris were joined by special guests Maryland State Delegates (D-16) Marc Korman and Sarah Wolek, Montgomery County Council President Andrew Friedson, and Megan Raymond, granddaughter of Caroline Freeland.  

Families and community members joined the celebration, enjoying games, refreshments, and activities. The $3.3 million renovation introduced a spacious central lawn, a large seating terrace, and accessible pathways that connect to a larger playground, relaxing bench swings, and bike parking. The new entry plaza on Hampden Lane welcomes pedestrians and provides emergency vehicle access when needed. 

WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks expands pickleball opportunities with the creation of six more dedicated pickleball courts at East Norbeck Local Park, A ribbon-cutting celebration will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, 6–8 p.m., to highlight the new courts and welcome night-time play under the lights. A free Joola racquet will be raffled at the event.

WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks is making significant strides in addressing water pollution by implementing best practices to prevent contaminants from entering local waterways through stormwater runoff, as required by the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit. Examples of these best practices and other progress towards meeting the requirements of this permit are demonstrated in their sixth annual NPDES report submitted to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) at the end of October.

Due to logistical reasons, the M-NCPPC Prince George’s County Planning Board meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 7, 2024, is canceled. Agenda items scheduled for Thursday, November 7, 2024, will be moved to the agenda for Thursday, November 14, 2024.

RIVERDALE, Md. – In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County presents Latinas in Aviation Global Festival at the College Park Aviation Museum and Airport on September 14, 10 am – 4 pm. This special cultural event honors and celebrates the trailblazing Latinas who have soared to new heights and opened doors for future generations in the aviation industry.

“Latinas in Aviation Global Festival allows the College Park Aviation Museum to be more inclusive in interpretation and connects us more meaningfully with our local Hispanic community,” said Dr. Nadine Boksmati-Fattouh, Museum Director at the College Park Aviation Museum. “In its fourth year, this event brings the community together and continues to inspire and empower young girls and provides resources and mentorship to those interested in an aviation career.”
