The public can participate in Planning Board meetings by testifying in-persontestifying virtually, over the phone, or by sending written comments on specific agenda items via email by 12 noon two business days before the meeting. Items received after this date and time will not be included in the record. LARGO, MD – The Prince George’s County Planning Board of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) welcomes Brittany Jenkins and Lori Matthews as members of the five-member Planning Board. Appointed by Prince George’s County Executive Aisha N. Braveboy and confirmed by the Prince George’s County Council following a public hearing, Jenkins was sworn in on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, and Matthews on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Jenkins succeeds former Prince George’s County Planning Board Commissioner, A. Shuanise Washington, whose four-year term will end on June 15, 2028. Matthews succeeds former Prince George’s County Planning Board Commissioner, William M. Doerner, PhD., whose four-year term will end on June 15, 2026. Jenkins and Matthews joined Chairman Darryl Barnes, Vice Chair Manuel Geraldo, and Commissioner Billy Okoye on Thursday, March 19, 2026, for their first Planning Board meeting.

LARGO, MD – The Prince George’s County Planning Department of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission hosted a graduation ceremony to celebrate the Fall 2025 Cohort of the Neighborhood Planning Academy on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the M-NCPPC Largo Headquarters. Designed specifically to engage Prince George’s County residents and community stakeholders, the Neighborhood Planning Academy explains the County’s planning framework, how to engage in the development review process, and how to advocate for their community goals and visions.

WHEATON, Md. – The Montgomery County Council approved an amendment to add Timberlawn to Montgomery County’s Master Plan for Historic Preservation. The vote follows the May 2025 recommendation by the Montgomery County Planning Board, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), to historically designate the North Bethesda house where Eunice Kennedy Shriver launched Camp Shriver, a day camp for children with intellectual disabilities that inspired the creation of Special Olympics.

“Timberlawn is a place where history and humanity intersect,” said Planning Board Chair Artie Harris. “It’s where a movement began that changed society’s understanding of inclusion and ability. The Montgomery County Planning Board is proud to help preserve that legacy, and we applaud the County Council for approving the historic designation.”

BETHESDA, Md. – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), announced the winners of the seventh biennial Design Excellence Awards competition at Celebrate Design 2025 held October 16 at Marriott International Headquarters in Bethesda. An independent jury of accomplished design and development professionals honored two developments with Design Excellence Awards and one development with a Merit Award that exemplify Montgomery County’s best architecture, urban design, and housing. The Celebrate Design event is a partnership with Montgomery Planning’s Design Excellence Awards program and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Potomac Valley Chapter to recognize excellent design in the county and region.

RIVERDALE, Md. – In support of the community impacted by the federal government shutdown, The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George’s County announced today that admission fees to all Department museums and rental fees for bikes and kayaks at waterfront parks will be waived. This initiative provides residents and visitors with access to affordable recreational and educational opportunities just minutes from the nation’s capital.

WHEATON, Md. –  Story Tapestries, in partnership with Montgomery Parks will launch the Community Roots: History and Belonging Mural Project on September 20, 2025. This creative initiative invites community members to come together via a series of community meetings to explore their heritage and help co-create a vibrant mural that celebrates the evolving legacy of Agricultural History Farm Park. The mural will be created by local artist Luis Del Valle.
